Photonics Engineer - Quantum Computing

QuiX Quantum is at the forefront of the development of photonic quantum computing, a rapidly developing sector. Since our start in 2019, we have presented two world record-breaking quantum photonic processors. As a fast-growing company, we are now looking for Photonics Engineer for our new subsidiary in Ulm, Germany.

What will you be doing?      

As a photonics engineer, you will be part of the engineering team that works on developing the next generation of our photonic quantum computer as part of DLR’s Quantum Computing Initiative. Your tasks will consist of developing and demonstrating quantum light sources. Depending on your background, they may include numerical and theoretical electromagnetic simulations, set-up of experiments, chip characterization, data analysis and system testing. You will work with a team of photonic device designers and quantum computing architects.

You will take care of:

·      Build optical setups for device characterization and system validation.

·      Perform numerical and theoretical electromagnetic calculations.

·      Validate new photonics devices in systems in a lab environment.

·      Perform devices characterization and data analysis.

·      Contribute to and manage internal and EU projects.

·      Continuously keep up to date with the latest scientific and engineering progress in photonics and quantum optics

·      Working in a multidisciplinary team with electrical engineers and quantum physicists

·      Report results at conferences and internal meetings

We can shape the position depending on seniority.

What we ask of you:

·      PhD in Physics, Electrical engineering or relevant discipline

·      Relevant technical background in integrated photonics or quantum optics,

·      Hands-on knowledge to build and modify optical setups, characterize photonic devices and subsequently evaluate the data in a systematic way.

·      Experience with quantum light sources or nonlinear optics is a strong plus.

·      Experience with Lumerical/Comsol for device simulations

·      Knowledge of component designing, such as microrings, MZI, lasers, etc..

·      Knowledge of foundry services is plus.

·      Hands-on mentality

·      Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

·      Good communication skills and teamwork

·      Passion for your profession

·      Pro-active, innovative, accurate and independent style of working

·      Proficiency in English language (verbal & written), German is a plus.

Employment conditions:

The position is full time. Your salary depends on both your education and experience. We have many educational opportunities, a generous number of vacation days and we offer a fully paid pension and attractive start up compensation. Equity plan participation available after the first year.
